but we do not, of course, know what has happened to it. Also, our Branch acted as agents for the Hong Kong Government for shipment of firewood, and it is possible that money is still owing to us, not only for commission, but for actual disbursement made by our Branch on behalf of the Hong Kong Government. We think it possible that the latter case may be treated separately.
We would mention that we have communicated with the Board of Trade, but have not yet received an answer.
Yours faithfully,.

Dear Sir,
In reply to your letter of the 10th instant I have to inform you that so far as we are aware H.M. Government have not yet reached any decision concerning claims which will arise out of enemy occupation of British Dependencies including North Borneo.
2. We hope shortly to submit to the Colonial Office such information as the companies operating in North Borneo have been able to furnish regarding losses sustained by reason of denial measures and when doing so, we will forward a copy of your letter under reply.
3. I may add that, in regard to firewood, the Governor informed us by cable on the 9th January that a claim had been submitted locally on your Company's behalf for $18,099 in respect of a shipment which cleared on December 6th and which it is thought could not have reached Hong Kong. This matter has been brought to the notice of the Colonial Office.
Yours faithfully, (Sga) W.O. Pidgeon.
Secretary.
